Since 1895, when the first child was helped by the woman, Mrs. E.E. Wiley, who began this ministry, more than 8,000 children have passed through the doors of Holston United Methodist Home for Children.
Many of the children who lived at Holston Home through the years went on to college with our help. We still offer that help, thanks to members of Holston Conference churches who support this ministry.
We try to stay in touch, and encourage former residents to come home to Holston Home whenever they can. Until recently, reunions were held each year, in June. In recent years, that schedule has changed to every other year because some former students have to travel so far that they plan vacations around the reunion. Every year, former students come back on their own; many bringing family with them to see where they grew up.
We call it Homecoming.
Homecoming is held on the Holston Home campus.
Homecoming is always a fun time when old friends get together and swap tales and compare photographs. They also make new friends.
One of the highlights of Homecoming is lunch, when former residents and current residents get to know each other.
It’s always a time of renewal. And, of course, you are invited. Even if you have not been associated with Holston Home as a former resident, if you are interested in knowing more about this ministry, Homecoming would be a good time to come see for yourself.
